The Miss City of Sunshine title came into being in 1996 when the Miss Klamath County program was given the opportunity to expand their local preliminary competition.  This chance was presented by the Miss Oregon program thanks to the generous support demonstrated by the community for the program.

Since that time, ten women have held the title of Miss City of Sunshine.  When originally implemented, Miss City of Sunshine was crowned in April, but did not compete in the Miss Oregon Pageant until after the conclusion of her year of service.  However, that practiced was changed in 1998.  That year, our local program sent three participants to compete for the Miss Oregon crown; Miss Klamath County, Megan Clinton, Miss City of Sunshine 1997, Vanessa Gardener and Miss City of Sunshine 1998, Kristin Hargan (who competed as Miss East Cascade).  From that point forward, both titleholders compete in the Miss Oregon Pageant the July immediately following their crowning
